Founded by Kintaro Hattori in 1881, Seiko watches is committed to the art and science of time. Seiko rose from humble beginnings when K. Hattori opened a clock repair store in Kyobashi, Tokyo. In 1892 he founded the Seikosha factory. In 1895 they made their first pocket watch. In 1913 Seiko watches created their first wrist watch, “Laurel.” And in 1969 Seiko invented the ground-breaking quartz watch movement. Indeed, Seiko has has introduced many firsts for watches, such as the world’s first automatic chronograph in 1969, first TV watch in 1983, first Kinetic watch in 1988, first Spring Drive watch in 1999, and even the world’s first watch designed specifically for a spacewalk in 2008. Today, after 130 years of innovation, Seiko will be launching a new series of “firsts,” including a new collection of commemorative watches.
